Jerusalem Stone — weatherproof by nature
An outdoor mezuzah case has one job: to protect the scroll through rain, sun and frost, year after year. Jerusalem stone does that without coatings or sealants. It is the limestone the city’s buildings and walls are made of, and it has stood outdoors there for centuries. Every case on this page is carved from it. The holder mounts on any exterior doorpost, gate or garden entrance with the sealed, waterproof double-sided adhesive we include; there is nothing to screw or drill. Choose a chamber size to match your scroll, from 12 cm to 30 cm. A scroll (klaf) can be added on the product page.

Why stone works outside

Wood swells, metal heats up and plastic fades in the sun. Stone does none of these. Jerusalem stone is a limestone that has weathered the city's winters and summers for centuries, so an outdoor case keeps its look without varnish or upkeep.

Keeping the scroll dry

The case is the first layer. Before you place the scroll inside, roll it and wrap it in a thin plastic sleeve or cling film, then seal the back of the chamber with the adhesive provided. On a doorpost that takes direct rain, a small bead of clear silicone along the top edge adds a second seal.

Mounting on brick, stucco, wood or metal

Clean the surface and let it dry completely. Smooth wood, metal and painted frames take the adhesive directly; rough brick or stucco holds best with a dab of exterior construction adhesive under the case. Press for a few seconds and keep light pressure on it for the first hours.

Outdoor Mezuzah Case — Questions & Answers

Will rain or frost damage a stone case?

No. Jerusalem stone is used outdoors across Jerusalem, where winters bring frost and summers strong sun. The stone needs no coating.

Is the scroll protected from water?

The case shields it; wrapping the scroll in a thin plastic sleeve and sealing the back keeps it dry on an exposed doorpost.

Will the adhesive hold in the sun and cold?

Yes. The double-sided adhesive is sealed and weather resistant. On rough brick or stucco, add a dab of exterior construction adhesive.

Can I use the same case indoors?

Yes. Every design here is suitable inside and outside.

One outdoor mezuzah case for every doorway

Every outdoor mezuzah case on this page is also suitable inside, so a gate, a garden door and the front door can match. For a bigger entrance, see the large front door sizes; for the full range, all Jerusalem stone mezuzahs. Where to place it is explained in our guide to hanging a mezuzah.
